    More GenMail Improvements

We made some improvements to the GenMail and the Details Report for changes that take place in your family tree. These changes include site statistics for GenMail and the ability to click on any individual found in the Details Report to view that individual in the Handprint and Starfield Views.

Each GenMail now includes summary information for what is happening on OneGreatFamily in terms of matches and merges. This information, which is found in the left-hand column of each GenMail, now includes the following site statistics:
    • Number of new individual merges
    • Number of new individual hints
    • Number of new family merges
    • Number of new family hints
    • Average individual merges per group
    • Average individual hints per group
    • Average family merges per group
    • Average family hints per group
These numbers help you understand how your family tree compares with the other family branches available in OneGreatFamily.com and provides context for the group numbers included within the GenMail message.

The most valuable improvement we made to GenMail this week isn't found in the email itself. The links provided in the email to view the hints and merges take you to the Details Report. A new enhancement to this report allows you to click on any name to see that individual in the Handprint and Starfield View. This enhancement will save you time and effort in seeing the areas in your tree that have been affected.

GenMail has been a valuable tool for seeing the growth of family trees through OneGreatFamily and has resulted in many guest members upgrading to subscriber accounts. GenMail is a free service provided by OneGreatFamily to let you know the results of our ongoing efforts. The Details Report, however, is only available to those who subscribe to OneGreatFamily.

GenMail is now an excellent service to let you see what is happening within your family tree, but we're not done yet. Please look for additional improvements to GenMail soon!

    Search Enhancements: Exact Search

OneGreatFamily has improved its search to include exact matches. Previously, including a middle name or additional name information in the search boxes at OneGreatFamily didn't change the results of the search. We ONLY provided results based on matching first and last names. Our new search takes into account all of the information provided in the search criteria. Any exact searches are now shown first, followed by matches based on first and last names only.

This enhancement will improve your experience when searching on common names, such as Charles Smith or John Williams. If you know the middle name of the person for whom you are searching, including the full name will now save you time.

     Question and Answer

How do I see which ancestors have been added to my family tree?

There are three ways to know if your family tree is growing on OneGreatFamily.com. Seeing which ancestors are new, however, requires a bit of effort.

You can rely on the following indicators to see if there has been activity on your family tree that may have resulted in the addition of new ancestors:
    1. GenMail - Pay attention to your GenMail notifications. We send GeMail email messages each week to let people know if their family trees are growing. Any merge that takes place within your family tree has the potential of adding new ancestors to your family tree.
    2. Starfield Merge Indicators (!) - The exclamation point is the icon we use on the Starfield to indicate individuals who have been merged with other branches on OneGreatFamily. After launching Genealogy Browser, you can click on the Merge Icon (!) to show or hide these indicators.
    3. New Stars Message - When new individuals are added to your family tree, you may receive a message from within Genealogy Browser that says how many new "stars" have been added to your Starfield. These stars represent new family members who are now in your family tree!
You can use the Details Report, which is available through your GenMail message, to look at your ancestors who have been merged or who have new "hints." (A hint means there is a possibility that your ancestor is the same person as someone else in OneGreatFamily, but we weren't sure.)

Clicking on any name in the Details Report allow you to see if there are also new ancestors as a result of the merge that has taken place. You can collaborate with others who have common ancestors to learn more about the new individuals who have been added to your family tree.
